These domain names can include personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other titles people are popular by. At the beginning, solely third-level registrations were allowed, so if you desired to purchase john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Existing third-level domains remained functional.
